The Sweat Trainers Share Some Of Their Favourite Books And Podcasts - Hero image

We hear a lot from the Sweat Trainers about what workouts they love, how they are training each week and how they fuel their bodies with nourishing food, but what about the things that keep them inspired and entertained? 

To get to know our trainers better, we asked a few of them for their current recommendations when it comes to books, TV shows and podcasts, whether it’s things that inspire them to be better, or things that they simply enjoy. Who knew Kayla loved true crime so much! 

Britany Williams

“Listening to inspirational nonfiction audiobooks while going on daily walks completely changed the start to my days. My favorite audiobook is Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey. Not only does he have a great voice for audiobooks, he has a unique way of storytelling that makes you reflect on your own life.”

“I also love both Brene Brown and Mel Robbins. Both women have dedicated their lives to improving the mental health of others and society. Any time I need motivation, an uplifting message or simply the feeling that I’m not alone in my feelings, I check out podcasts, books, or simply the social media accounts of either of those women.”

Kayla Itsines

While we wouldn’t blame you for thinking that head trainer Kayla Itsines would spend her time diving into all things health and fitness, that couldn’t be further from the truth! Chances are, she’s actually listening to true crime podcasts. Her absolute faves? Crime Junkie, Dr Death, and Who The Hell Is Hamish? 

Cass Olholm

“It’s not the usual self-development type of content I typically consume, however I’ve been loving and tuning into the Shameless podcast every week. It is an Australian pop culture podcast, so is perfect if you’re looking for something entertaining and simply easy to listen to.”

“I also recently finished reading A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini, which again is not my typical self-development content, but it’s my latest read and one I absolutely loved. It’s a beautiful but tragic story that is also incredibly eye-opening - a must-read!”

Sara Colquhoun

My fave books at the moment are:

  • Atomic Habits by James Clear: Great if you are wanting to know how to create habits, and break old ones. Very practical and great lessons to take away. 

  • The Resilience Project by Hugh van Cuylenburg: Amazing story. Mostly light-hearted but lots of amazing lessons on gratitude and mindfulness. 

  • The Happiest Man On Earth by Eddie Jaku OAM: A sad and beautiful real-life story. 

  • The Better Brain by Julia Rucklidge and Bonnie J Kaplan: This is all about how our brain function is affected by our nutrition. 

Favourite podcasts:

  • The Mindset Mentor: Bite-size 20-minute, no-fluff, positive mindset chats. 

  • Entreprenista: This is all about female startups. Very empowering for women. 😍

  • And for a laugh, the Inspired Unemployed podcast!

Kelsey Wells

My fave books:

  • Meta Human by Deepak Chopra 

  • The Path Made Clear by Oprah Winfrey

  • Awareness by Anthony de Mello

They have all been life changing for me!
