Benefits of a good workout playlist

As we’ve always said, a good workout playlist can be an excellent way to motivate yourself during exercise and to push yourself to your limits. Did you know that science actually backs this belief? Studies have proven that music can have a positive impact on your workout. Some of these benefits include:

  • Listening to music can enhance your overall mood.

  • Music can help you push yourself that extra mile. By matching the tempo (speed) of the music to your workout style, it can help you synchronise your movements with the beat of the music — so if you’re listening to up-tempo music, you may be more likely to work at a harder level to keep up with the beat of the music.

  • Music can help you take your mind off the mental or physical struggle of a tough workout — by having a distraction (music), you can actually decrease the way you perceive the pain that you are experiencing (a tough workout). What this means is that listening to music when working out can help distract you from any pain or discomfort, which might make you more likely to keep going!

While studies have proven that there are benefits of listening to music during a workout, ideally it should be music that plays at a particular speed. Generally, between 125-140 BPM (beats per minutes) can be considered a good music speed to exercise to if you want to have an intense workout and be motivated to push yourself.

That’s why we’ve included a range of upbeat songs on our Christmas workout playlist — to motivate you to work harder and push yourself a little further this festive season.
